To celebrate the creation of this blog, I decided to start with an image of creation from the Gothic period. The image belongs to a moralized Bible and portrays God creating the world with the help of a compass. The creation of the world no longer takes place after God’s command as stated in Genesis. Instead, the artist shows God studiously applying geometric principles to create the sun, the moon and the earth. In the middle ages, the circle, which has no beginning nor end, symbolized the eternity of God.
